An orgasm – and a life-changing sexual awakening Henry Stuart, Lord_Darnley The film’s most climactic moment is not the tragic depiction of Mary losing her head, but rather of her receiving head from her future husband, Henry Stuart, Lord Darnley (Jack Lowden).
One scene, in particular, has set critical tongues wagging. It seems that Rourke has chosen to sex up the biopic, with, well, sex. There is no doubt Mary’s life was punctuated by episodes of intense drama, but she also spent almost 19 years under house arrest, sitting down and sewing a lot, so retelling her tale for a modern cinematic audience requires some serious editing. The story of Mary Queen of Scots is one of passion, murder, and betrayal that culminates (spoiler alert) with Mary’s eventual execution on Elizabeth’s order in 1587.
